Metal Gear Online closed beta video

At the 20th anniversary party for the Metal Gear series, one of the surprising announcements was for a closed beta testing of Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Online is, as the name would imply, an online multiplayer version of the every popular Metal Gear series. Metal Gear Online, originally thought to be just a part of Metal Gear Solid 4, has now been confirmed at Leipzig to be a stand alone title. Hideo Kojima was quick to add, however, that in at least some form or another, there would be an online multiplayer aspect of Metal Gear Solid 4.

In the video, we see a bit of character customization – 3 models, and 4 voices – and also see some of the weapon selections. The video then goes into what appears to be a ‘capture and hold’ game. The game itself looks fun, blending standard elements of an online shooter with the quirks we all know and love in the MG world, such as the card board box and the porno magazines. MGO looks to follow heavily in the footsteps of the online multiplayer game included in Metal Gear Solid: Subsistence. Anyways, enough with the chatter, and on to the video!

Metal Gear Online has no set release date, but its conceivable that it would launch alongside Metal Gear Solid 4. Metal Gear Solid 4 is due out in early 2008. Pre-order it and other great MG collectibles at PlayAsia!
