Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge: Not free anymore?

The SCEE has just sent out a press release hyping Gran Turismo 5 Prolouge. It includes a few more details, like the demo having over 40 cars, the ability to race up to 16 players online, and 2 new tracks in addition to Suzuka(Eiger Nordwand and London). The press release also includes more info on the online network and player rankings. Its a really interesting read if you are anticipating the game.

However, if there is one peculiar detail mentioned, the press release indicates that there will be a Blu Ray hard copy of the game as well. Now, for a long time, people speculated that Sony would charge $30 – $40 for the demo. However, at the Leipzig GC2007 conference, series creator Yamauchi indicated that the demo would be a free download on the PSN. This raises the question then: Will Sony charge its unknowing customers for a Blu Ray version when they could just download the same demo from the PSN? It doesn’t seem like a very smart move. I think its safe to say that either the BR hard copy will have extra content, or the PSN download will not actually be free. Hopefully Sony clears this confusion up…
