And its out!

Today is the release date of the most anticipated 360 title thus far, Halo 3. True Halo aficionados have probably been playing the game since its midnight release, while hundreds of thousands more will be picking up the game during the day, and through out the rest of the week.

The launch of Halo 3 will give the XBox 360 a much needed boost in sales. Its main competition, the Nintendo Wii, has been falling in sales as of late, while the 360 has been steadily rising due to the price drop about a month ago and 2 strong releases(Bioshock and Madden 2008). As of last week, the 360 sold 88,000 units, a mere 5,000 units behind the Wii, the closest its been in a very long time. For the next few weeks, expect the 360 to see a large jump in console sales due to H3, well over 100K a week. The Wii should continue to drop until Mario Galaxy and SSMB, while the PS3 continues to stagnate around 35-40K until late October/November. Halo 3 set a new benchmark in terms of pre-orders, with 2 million copies being pre-ordered. The sales will probably eclipse the pre-order numbers, selling around 2.5 million in the first week or so. Just to put it into perspective, the best selling games so far this year have only sold about .5 million copies.

So far, Halo 3 has received amazing reviews, averaging 95% on GameRatings.com. Especially notable is the 35/40 review received from Famitsu, a Japanese magazine notorious for harsh grading. Players seem to agree, claiming Halo 3 is one of the best gaming experiences this year so far, praising its deep multiplayer.

So whats next for the XBox 360? There are still a handful of great 360 exclusives releasing this year. Most notable is Bioware’s Mass Effect, a title many are claiming will be the game of the year for 2007. Also keep an eye out for Ace Combat 6, Eternal Sonata, Losy Odyssey, Project Gotham Racing 4, and the new Splinter Cell game. Also, multiplatform titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Call of Duty 4 are sure to be stellar titles as well.

So what are you waiting for? If you have a 360, you need to get Halo 3. Its your duty to finish the fight! Order it now at PlayAsia!
