Hollywood Reporter confirms 40GB PS3 is USA bound

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced that Sony was on the verge of announcing a new 40GB PS3 model at a reduced cost in an effort to compete better against the cheaper XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii. Despite initially denying these rumors, the SCEE(Sony Europe) later confirmed that a 40GB model would be launching on October 10 at a price of €399. The new 40GB PS3 model would have 2 less USB ports, no memory card slots, and no backwards compatibility with PS1/2 games. The existing bundle pack, comprised of a 60GB PS3, 2 controllers, and 2 first party games, was reduced in price to €499. No announcements were made in regards to whether the 40GB would make it to the US shores.

However, earlier today, Hollywood Reporter claims to have heard from numerous sources that the 40GB model will indeed be making an appearance in the US. Details are scarce, but the Reporter’s sources say that it will go on sale November 2. More details will be posted as they come.
